DeMar DeRozan isn’t bothered by the uncertainty surrounding the Chicago Bulls’ roster, should he be?

The life of an NBA player—albeit comfortable with all the financial rewards—can be filled with uncertainty. One day, you can be comfortable playing in Chicago, but the next, you could be traded to Washington or any other locale in the league.
For DeMar DeRozan, this is a reality he has had to face throughout his professional career. After being traded from the Toronto Raptors to the San Antonio Spurs in 2018 and then signing with the Bulls in 2021, DeRozan knows all too well about adapting to new environments and teams.
So when asked about the uncertainty surrounding the Bulls’ roster, with several key players potentially being moved before the trade deadline, DeRozan’s response was nothing short of confident and determined.
“I can really be at a point where that [expletive] doesn’t bother me,” DeRozan said.
Tough situation.
DeRozan is in the final year of his three-year contract, so naturally, his name has often come up in trade talks. And with the Bulls currently in ninth place in the Eastern Conference and struggling to find consistency, it’s understandable that there may be some changes made before the deadline. DeRozan, though, is undeterred from doing his job.
“I don’t sit up here refreshing my apps in the morning to see what’s what, rumors or anything,” DeRozan said.
“Should we, shouldn’t we . . . it’s a tough question for me because being in the league so long.”
Focus remains on leading the Bulls to more wins.
Being a vet of the league, DeRozan understands that front offices will do what they do, and there’s little he can do to control that. But what he can control is his performance on the court and helping the Bulls win games.
This season, DeRozan has been a consistent performer for the Bulls, averaging 22.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game. But more than just statistics, DeRozan brings a veteran presence and leadership to a Bulls team that has risen up the Eastern Conference ladder after being mired at the bottom at the season’s start.
